Comedian Eddie Izzard wins Award Fit for an Athlete

Comedian Eddie Izzard won the top award at BBC’s “Sports Personality of the Year” event on Sunday. Izzard has ran in 43 marathons and covered 1100 miles around England raising money for Sports Relief. Sports Relief was created in 2002 when the annual BBC Comic Relief charity drive teamed up with BBC Sports to create a new charity initiative with the aim of “helping poor and disadvantaged people turn their lives around – in the UK as well as the world’s poorest countries.”

Upon winning the award, Izzard stated to the crowd, “But I’m no athlete. Not like everybody here tonight. It was really tough. Everything was painful. People asked me if I enjoyed the running, but I enjoyed the stopping! I staggered, I ran and I crawled.”

See this “Sports Personality of the Year” on January 23 live at American Airlines Center. Congratulations Eddie.
